INTRODUCTION

Da'awa and Relief Organization (DRO) is a charitable Non-Governmental organization with Headquarters in Gombe, Gombe State of Nigeria and have branches in all the Local Governments areas of the State. It is an aspiring aid and development charity, which aims to propagate Islam, alleviate the suffering of the poor, promotes sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities, and responding to disasters and emergencies.

DRO is a charity Organization, (established in 1998 as Council of Da'awah and Guidance Gombe) registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2013 (Reg No.60014) and has an administrative and financial entity of its own, withing the framework of its constitution and bye laws.

Enlightening the Muslim Ummah towards achieving spiritual attainment, social economic prosperity and promoting peaceful co-existence in the society.

Objectives

  1. Promoting Islamic values, mobilizing resources, building partnerships, and developing local capacity.
  2. Rendering assistance to orphans and vulnerable children.
  3. Promote integrated development with a focus on sustainable livelihoods.
  4. Support societal reorientation and transformation through enlightenment and capacity building.

ACTIVITIES

The main activities of the organization are as follows:
  1. Organizing Da’awah (Preaching) and Irshad (Guidance) programmes which include Ramadan Tafsir, Islamic lessons in various centres, workshops and seminars, outreach to towns, villages and hamlets,etc. In that regard DRO has Organized and sponsored the annual Ramadan Qur’anic Tafsir at Hakimin Doma, Jumma’at Mosque, Gombe conducted by Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa since 1998 and at more 30 other centres in and outside Gombe. It had been conducting Daawah outreach programmes (weekly and monthly) in towns and villages within Gombe and beyond. Including posting teachers to very remote areas.
  2. Aiding orphans and vulnerable in the society in the areas of education, health and food. In that regard, the Gombe Orphanage Community Centre (Da’awah Orphanage) was built and commenced operation on February 6, 2011 and is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2012 (reg. No CAC/AT/N052788). The main of the Centre activity is rendering assistance to orphans and vulnerable children below the age of 18 years who are currently living in and around Gombe. The Orphanage has accommodated and graduated over 100 orphans and currently houses 60 orphans. Apart from the orphanage there are some 1,150 orphans that have been registered but residing with their families who are occasionally receiving assistance of food, education and health.
  3. Aiding converts to the Islamic religion in terms of their education (religious and otherwise), security, health, shelter and general wellbeing.
  4. Arbitrating (Sulhu) in cases of marriage, inheritance and other disputes between Muslims and even non-Muslims.
  5. Establishment of the Hisbah Command, Gombe which is a voluntary first-aid outfit. The Hisbah Corps have been participating in the annual Hajj exercise and providing security services at the venues of Tafsir and other gatherings.
  6. Establishment of Institutions of learning. A special Islamiyya School was established for New converts among other schools run by the DRO. The DRO has also established Fountain College of Health Sciences and Technology in order to render services to the community and boost its sources of funding.
  7. Partnering with others to render community services. The DRO has been distributing food items to the need in Gombe State every Ramadan on behalf of Salsabil foundation. It has similar partnership with Turkiye Diyanet foundation, Dangote foundation and many others.
