Sheikh Aminu Daurawa is a well-known Islamic scholar, preacher, and public figure in Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions. He is recognized for his efforts in Da’awah (Islamic propagation), community development, and social reform.

Historical and Personal Background

Born on Wednesday, the 1st of January 1969, in Kofar Mazugal, within the ancient city of Kano, Sheikh Daurawa hails from a noble lineage deeply rooted in Islamic learning and moral uprightness. He is the son of Malam Ibrahim Bila Mai Tafsiri, a renowned scholar known for his Qur’anic exegesis, and Malama Sa’adatu Almustapha, a woman of grace and spiritual wisdom. From his early childhood, it became apparent that young Muhammad Aminu was destined for a life devoted to learning, service, and spiritual enlightenment.

His educational journey began in the traditional Islamic Tsangaya system, where he memorized the Holy Qur’an and studied under some of the most revered scholars of the region. Among his teachers were luminaries such as Alaramma Umar Adakawa, Alaramma Salisu Bahadeje, Sheikh Auwal Isah Yantandu, and Sheikh Almustapha Bazazzage — figures who collectively instilled in him a deep understanding of Qur’anic recitation, Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), Arabic grammar (nahwu), and prophetic traditions (hadith). This strong foundation laid the bedrock of his lifelong dedication to both classical Islamic education and modern intellectual inquiry.

Secular and Professional Education

In addition to his Islamic training, Sheikh Daurawa pursued formal education in secular institutions. He attended Adakawa Primary School (1975–1982). Gwale Teachers’ College from (1984–1989). He furthered his educational aspirations at Bayero University, Kano, where he was enrolled (2004-2007) although he did not complete his degree due to da’wah obligations, his time there was marked by active engagement in student and Islamic intellectual life. He also obtained a Diploma Certificate in Computer Studies and earned both his Senior School Certificate (NECO) and National Primary School Certificate, which speak to his commitment to holistic personal development.

Leadership and Public Service: Hisbah and Moral Reform

Perhaps one of the most visible legacies of Sheikh Daurawa is his pioneering work with the Kano State Hisbah Board, where he served three separate terms as Commander General: 2011–2015, 2015–2019, and 2023 to date. Under his leadership, the Hisbah was transformed from a moral policing body into an institution that prioritized conflict resolution, marriage reconciliation, social justice, anti-drug campaigns, and moral reawakening among youth. Sheikh Daurawa brought moral authority, administrative innovation, and spiritual clarity to the office, ensuring that Islamic ethics were practiced with wisdom, compassion, and public benefit. As such, he emphasis on dialogue over punishment, counseling over condemnation, and social reform over vigilantism made the Kano Hisbah a model for other states and an institution worth emulating.

Islamic Da’wah and Teaching

For more than 35 years, Sheikh Daurawa has committed himself to da’wah — the call to Islamic knowledge, faith, and moral consciousness. His da’wah activities span across Nigeria and beyond. Internationally, he has delivered sermons, lectures, and interfaith discussions in countries including Ghana, Niger, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, and Germany, among others.

Locally, his efforts have covered states such as Gombe, Borno, Sokoto, Lagos, Kaduna and Abuja. He has traversed the length and breadth of Nigeria delivering Ramadan tafseer, public lectures, marriage counseling sessions, and youth reformation seminars. His message is simple yet profound: return to the core values of Islam — justice, compassion, integrity, and learning. More so, his voice is heard in various mosques such as Triumph Mosque, Saqafa Mosque, Zoo Road Nana Aisha Mosque, and the Skyline University Juma’at Mosque, he continues to offer insightful lessons on religious books such as Riyadus-Salihin, Bulugh al-Maram, Umdatul Ahkam, and Kitab al-Tawhid. Through his teaching style, thousands have been inspired to become more productive and better members of the society.

Perhaps his Da’awah and teachings in Gombe where he spent twenty-five years delivering Ramadan Tafsir would stand out as one his remarkable achievements. Thousands of people have been transformed, hundreds have accepted Islam,  many orphans and less privileges have benefitted from the relief programs he initiated including the marriage hundreds of female converts, Da’awah Orphanage was established and Da’awah and Relief Organization was formed to oversee these activities
